My own journey has been hugely helped by shamanic healing modalities, a world I’ve been in since 2011, and by men’s work, which I first encountered in 2009. In 2013, I was initiated in the Mankind Project, and I began holding men’s circles in-person in 2018 and now online too. With men, I draw strongly on Jungian archetypes and the ‘ruthless love’ of supportive challenge. I am an initiate of Xaman Alba Maria in the Shamanism of the Mother Goddess, having spent some months each year training in Brazil and Peru since 2016. Recently I am honoured to have completed a five year initiation to hold the medicine of Wachuma (San Pedro).
I am in my second year of training in psychotherapy with the Psychosynthesis Trust in London and am inspired by Richard Schwartz’s Internal Family Systems approach and his invitation to become a Bodhissatava (hold a loving space for) all the parts within - in our complex and deceptively simple adventure of being human. I am an IFS Informed Coach, having completed Circle Training. I am a graduate of the Selfcraft Creator coaching programme and have trained in Somatic Plant Medicine Integration (with Atira Tan).
I teach Hatha Yoga, having learned from a student of Pattabhi Jois (creator of Ashtanga) and meditation and have practiced both over 20 years. I discovered meditation at 21 seeking a way to find equilibrium after deep diving into the rave culture and recreational drug use of Manchester of the 90s and getting the bends! It changed my life.
I have a rather rusty black belt in the Japanese martial art of Aikido and currently study Muay Thai.
We are homo sapiens - wise apes - with perhaps unique capacity for self-reflection in the animal kingdom. To be content, productive and useful we need in my opinon to develop a healthy relationship with all parts of ourself and with nature and cultures we are part of.
